To Mark the Fortieth anniversary of The AM Band’s inception Andy, John, Austen and Neil embarked on a new project (Sort of) revamping and re-recording the first LP Less is More with Two new inductees Michael Connolly and Ernie Mckone on drums and Bass.

Global Carol

This campaign is to raise money and awareness of the plight of people in the horn of Africa who are undergoing yet another drought (Fifth rain less season) that is leading to the deaths of millions and is a direct result of Global climate change

Fronted by Andrew Wood Mitchell on Vocals, Harmonica and occasional keyboards, Austen Hornbrook on Guitar and Vocals, Neil McDougall on Keyboards and Vocals and John Falcini on Vocals and keyboards. This is the story of a band that got together, broke up many times, changed it’s names only slightly less often than the innumerable revolving rhythm sections and occasional line up experiments. Properly ended and then regrouped and began recording Twenty Years later …

Early Days … Writer’s Revenge
1982 – 1986
This band of happy reprobates that eventually evolved into The AM Band began it’s life with Andy in his early teens writing and performing scripts with original music compositions to go with them. Some might call these efforts musicals but Andrew would like it to be known he will kill anyone who does so.

1986 – 1987
Then came a dramatic change in the groups direction. Tony Clark a senior producer at Abbey Road Studios who’d always supported Andy’s fledging efforts introduced him to a prospective Manager.

One week later and Andy & Neil created the next version of this ongoing … saga Wooden Mac. During this period the duo were greatly influenced by the wonderful Sunday Night Carnarvon Castle Pub

1988 – 1989
nder the guise of Andrew Mitchell’s Second Act this incarnation was perhaps the least effective version of the band, coming as it did at the end of Andy, Neil and Austen’s flirtation with the blues in the Spring of 1988 and the guys were attempting to find another direction

In 2004 the band held it’s Twentieth Anniversary gig at Bar Solo in Camden joined on this occasion by Micky Englert and Steve Laffy resumed his role in the band on drums.
A Global Carol
2022
Originally recorded as a series of demos in 1986 to 1991 The AM Band album “A Global Carol” is based on a very loose adaptation of Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. Recorded at Metropolis Studios and Abbey Road the track features an amazing choir with some of London’s best soul vocalists and a fabulous band along with the original band members Andy Mitchell, Neil McDougall and John Falcini with Nuno Carvalho filling Austen’s venerable shoes for this project.
